Book & Typeface
Book design & typeface for Design Museum Holon building designed by Ron Arad Architects.
A detailed journal on the Design Museum Holon building, tracing the evolution of the project from its inception as an idea for a gallery within a crumbling local authority building,
and into a newly built, internationally acclaimed design museum.
Through anecdotal and playful dialogue between personal observation, sketches,
construction site photos, diagrams and graphics, the book structure echoes the spirit
of the museum itself and sheds light on the people and processes behind the architecture.
The book is published to coincide with the celebration of the museum's 5th year of activity.
It is designed as a collectible object, and includes a patinating steel paper knife,
for readers to use in the process of revealing the narrative contained within
its perforated French-folded pages.
The book suggest two kinds of reading: outside of the french folded pages
which only contain images from day one of the site construction until
grand opening of the museum. The second reading is when you open
the perforated French-folded pages and reveal text, sketches and much more
about the stories that made this museum to come alive.
The typeface is based on Ron Arad's hand writing and is being used
only in Arad's text in the book.
This project was designed with Ron Arad while working at Ron Arad Associates
and produced by a third party.
